Blue Five - Art Space

Amber is a full-time mother and self-taught painter. Five years ago, after finishing
her second graduate degree (one in business, one in psychology), Amber left her 9-5
professional life to pursue a more artistic path. After not picking up a paintbrush since
college, she returned to painting for a very personal reason: it was a therapeutic release
from the anxieties involved with conceiving her first child. Her inaugural series, titled
the Fire Series, reflects this state of mind and includes reds and oranges applied in thick
impastos.

After the birth of her second child, Amber began experimenting with new colors and
painting techniques. "The Water Series was inspired by my desire to work with the color
blue. I soon discovered that using hues of blue, green, and gray helped me articulate
the feelings of fluidity and serenity within me." She also used water to drip and spray,
creating texture by subtraction.

In addition to the Color Series, which embraces the potential of color on a large scale,
several paintings followed which displayed a unique aesthetic effect, created using palette
knives, rags, and/or wet on dry application.

This exhibition marks the debut of Amber's latest series: White. Created using a drip
method, the lack of color in these works reflects the level of detachment between artist's
hand and paint canvas.

Amber's works have been exhibited throughout Southern California since 2008,
including solo shows in Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Irvine, and belong to both
private and corporate collections in Los Angeles, Orange County, Las Vegas, and Seattle.
She works on commission and has excelled at customizing pieces for the unique settings
of her clients' homes.

Now pregnant with her third child, Amber's biggest artistic challenge includes keeping
her two young sons out of the wet paint in her home studio.
